Installing and Using the Cisco VPN Client

With the increasing concern for security and privacy on the Internet, some campus network resources are more closely protected these days.  So Computing Services is implementing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to offer more secure and reliable access to the campus network.

The Lehigh Group VPN provides the following benefits to users:

The Cisco VPN client software helps to make the connection between your computer and the rest of the Corporate network more secure, and lets corporate computers know who you are.  You will need a “domain account” to use the client.

Using the Cisco VPN Client

The Cisco VPN client does not make a physical connection to a network for you; it does not dial the telephone.  It works with whatever connection you already have, whether Ethernet on campus, cable modem service (e.g., RoadRunner), DSL, or dial-up.

The VPN connection will be terminated automatically after a period of time if there is no activity, so if you’ve been away from your computer for a long while and you have problems with network resources when you come back, check for the   icon in the System Tray.  If it’s not there, simply reconnect.
